HOSPITALS BRACE FOR OMICRON, LIMITED TREATMENT OPTIONS

Omicron's spike protein mutations render two of the three monoclonal antibodies ineffective, only one of them has proven effective. But with an onslaught of the highly transmissible virus expected this winter, the effective treatment from Glaxo Smith Kline is in short supply. There are also pills that have shown promise, especially Pfizer's Paxlovid but that, too is in short supply. The best strategy for now presumably is to be fully vaccinated. Featuring infectious disease specialists Dr. Amesh Adalja and Dr. Megan Srinivas.
